How to play

INSTRUCTIONS FROM THE GAME LISTING

Solve Nonogram puzzles. Color the grid and reveal an image. At the top of each column, and at the side of each row, you will notice a set of one or more numbers. These numbers tell you the runs of squares in that row/column. So, if you see '4 1', that tells you that there will be a run of exactly 4 squares followed by a at least one open square and than a single square.

03

Easy steps for beginners

Think of Picture Nonogram like this:

  1. The numbers on the left tell you how many filled squares are in each row - 4 2 means four filled, then a gap, then two.
  2. The numbers on the top do the same for each column.
  3. Click a square to fill it in, right-click to mark it as empty.
  4. Start with a clue of 1 - it is easy to place.
  5. When a row is finished you can often fill the columns below it for free.

In one sentence: Use the numbers down the side and across the top to draw a hidden picture.

04

Your goal & how to win

TARGET
Use the numbers down the side and across the top to draw a hidden picture.
WIN
Fill exactly the right squares so the picture appears and every clue matches.

SCORING: Time, hints used, and percentage of the picture completed.

Milestones to aim for while you learn:

  • Fill all the 1s first, then the 2s, then the bigger ones.
  • Work row by row across the top, then use the columns to confirm.
05

Controls & buttons

  • Mouse click or tap to play - most zbani games work with both mouse and touch
  • Most games on zbani.com work on a computer with a mouse and also on a phone or tablet with taps and swipes, so you can play either way.
06

Skills to practice

These are suggested skills to practice while playing, not a promise of improved memory, learning, or school performance.

Picture Nonogram trains several mental skills at the same time. Here is what each one does and why it is worth playing:

  • Systematic deduction - each clue narrows the possibilities until only one answer is left.
  • Careful counting - misreading a number of 4 as 3 ruins a whole section.
  • Pattern completion - you see the picture forming before it is finished.
  • Error correction - you spot a wrong square early because a clue stops matching.

Why it is good for kids in particular:

  • The rules are short and the feedback is instant, so young players stay motivated and build confidence quickly.
  • Every round is short, which fits into a school break without losing focus.
  • It is a screen skill that transfers off the screen: reading instructions, counting, planning and spotting mistakes all show up in everyday tasks.

This game also borrows from other styles, which adds to the workout:

  • number and shape logic puzzles skills - the same focus and planning you use in number and shape logic puzzles.
07

Tips & strategies

  • Fill all the 1s first, then the 2s, then the bigger ones.
  • Work row by row across the top, then use the columns to confirm.
  • Mark every square of a finished clue as filled or empty - it saves time later.
  • If a clue stops matching, check your most recent few marks first.
  • Play a few rounds before you try to be clever. Learn the simple rhythm first; the advanced tricks only work once the basics are automatic.
  • If you keep losing at the same point, that point is your training goal.
  • Short daily practice beats one long session, and it is how the real skills (planning and control) actually improve.
08

Friendly challenges

Keep challenges friendly and free. No money, purchases, or prizes are needed to enjoy the game.

zbani.com games are free and there is no real-money wagering here. If you play with friends, these are the fair, fun challenges people use:

  • Friendly challenge: finish with no hints.
  • Friendly challenge: complete a 20x20 picture in one sitting.
  • Friendly challenge: beat your time by 20 percent.
  • If you do bet something, bet a real-world thing: the loser makes tea, the loser chooses the next game, the loser does the washing up.
  • Play-money only, and never bet money you cannot afford to lose.
09

Reward & badge ideas

Ideas for the future. The stars, badges, and Best Player board described below are proposals. They are not currently awarded or tracked by zbani.com.

Stars. Earn stars for playing well in Picture Nonogram:

  • Stars are based on level, score and how few hints you used.
  • Stars are kept on your profile, so you can see your total growing over time rather than only your best single round.

Badges to collect:

  • Clean Sweep - finish a round without losing a life
  • Speed Star - finish under the target time
  • Combo Master - reach a 10x multiplier
  • Comeback Kid - win from last place or lowest score
  • Daily Player - play 7 days in a row

The Best Player board for Picture Nonogram:

  • The top scores and best times for Picture Nonogram are listed on a 'Best Player' board for that game, so there is always a target to aim at.
  • Beating your own score is the first milestone. Beating someone else on the board is the second. Both are worth celebrating.
  • Board spots should reset when the game is updated or the difficulty changes, so the ranking always means something.

Reward idea for a family or class:

  • Collect 10 stars for a sticker, 50 stars for a real reward, and 200 stars for 'Game Master of the Month'. Kids remember the badge far longer than the score, and it rewards steady practice instead of one lucky round.

About this guide

Sections 1, 2, 4, 5 and 11 come from the official Picture Nonogram game pages on zbani.com. Sections 3, 6, 7, 8 and 9 are written by a helper tool from the official description and the kind of game it is: they are guidance for players, not official rules from the publisher.

Sections 8 and 9 describe friendly challenges and a rewards idea for a family, class or community. zbani.com does not run real-money betting, and the 'Best Player' board described here is a suggestion for a leaderboard, not an existing zbani.com feature.

Word count of this card: about 1353 words.
