How to play

INSTRUCTIONS FROM THE GAME LISTING

Classic card game: 31. Try to get as close as possible to 31 on the same suit or get 30 points on 3 of a kind. Stop the bus if you think you can win a round.

03

Easy steps for beginners

Think of Ride the Bus like this:

  1. The cards at the top left are the stock you can flip through.
  2. Build the tableau piles DOWN in alternating colours - red then black, black then red.
  3. The piles at the top right are the foundations - build UP in the same suit, starting with the Ace.
  4. Only move a card, or a correctly ordered run of cards - never a random pile.
  5. When the last card lands on a foundation you have won. Do not reuse the stock unless the game allows it.

In one sentence: Move every card from the stock pile to the foundation pile(s), building up in suit and rank.

04

Your goal & how to win

TARGET
Move every card from the stock pile to the foundation pile(s), building up in suit and rank.
WIN
All cards face up and sorted in the foundations.

SCORING: Usually based on time, number of moves, or how many cards you managed to move.

Milestones to aim for while you learn:

  • Move the biggest possible alternating run at once - one move, many cards.
  • Prefer moving cards that uncover face-down cards, even if it is not the tidiest move.
05

Controls & buttons

  • Mouse click or tap to play - most zbani games work with both mouse and touch
  • Most games on zbani.com work on a computer with a mouse and also on a phone or tablet with taps and swipes, so you can play either way.
06

Skills to practice

These are suggested skills to practice while playing, not a promise of improved memory, learning, or school performance.

Ride the Bus trains several mental skills at the same time. Here is what each one does and why it is worth playing:

  • Planning many steps ahead - solitaire punishes impulse moves - you learn to think before acting.
  • Working memory - you must remember what is buried under each pile.
  • Flexible thinking - when the obvious move fails you must re-plan quickly.
  • Risk assessment - deciding whether to flip the stock is a real cost-benefit judgement.

Why it is good for kids in particular:

  • The rules are short and the feedback is instant, so young players stay motivated and build confidence quickly.
  • Every round is short, which fits into a school break without losing focus.
  • It is a screen skill that transfers off the screen: reading instructions, counting, planning and spotting mistakes all show up in everyday tasks.
07

Tips & strategies

  • Move the biggest possible alternating run at once - one move, many cards.
  • Prefer moving cards that uncover face-down cards, even if it is not the tidiest move.
  • Always move an Ace or low card to a foundation as soon as it is available.
  • Keep the tableau in descending order; do not break a correct sequence to tidy up.
  • Play a few rounds before you try to be clever. Learn the simple rhythm first; the advanced tricks only work once the basics are automatic.
  • If you keep losing at the same point, that point is your training goal.
  • Short daily practice beats one long session, and it is how the real skills (planning and control) actually improve.
08

Friendly challenges

Keep challenges friendly and free. No money, purchases, or prizes are needed to enjoy the game.

zbani.com games are free and there is no real-money wagering here. If you play with friends, these are the fair, fun challenges people use:

  • Friendly challenge: win a deal without using the stock more than twice.
  • Friendly challenge: beat your previous move count on the same deal.
  • Friendly challenge: deal-only run - win with zero redeals.
  • Friendly challenge: fastest win, timer starts at deal.
  • If you do bet something, bet a real-world thing: the loser makes tea, the loser chooses the next game, the loser does the washing up.
  • Play-money only, and never bet money you cannot afford to lose.
09

Reward & badge ideas

Ideas for the future. The stars, badges, and Best Player board described below are proposals. They are not currently awarded or tracked by zbani.com.

Stars. Earn stars for playing well in Ride the Bus:

  • A win is 50 stars, plus 10 stars for every 100 moves under par.
  • Stars are kept on your profile, so you can see your total growing over time rather than only your best single round.

Badges to collect:

  • First Win - win your first deal
  • Pure Win - win without reusing the stock
  • Low Moves - win a deal under 200 moves
  • Perfect Foundation - build all four suits from Ace to King
  • Ten Deal Streak - win ten deals in a row
  • Clean Sweep - finish a round without losing a life
  • Speed Star - finish under the target time
  • Combo Master - reach a 10x multiplier
  • Comeback Kid - win from last place or lowest score
  • Daily Player - play 7 days in a row

The Best Player board for Ride the Bus:

  • The top scores and best times for Ride the Bus are listed on a 'Best Player' board for that game, so there is always a target to aim at.
  • Beating your own score is the first milestone. Beating someone else on the board is the second. Both are worth celebrating.
  • Board spots should reset when the game is updated or the difficulty changes, so the ranking always means something.

Reward idea for a family or class:

  • Collect 10 stars for a sticker, 50 stars for a real reward, and 200 stars for 'Game Master of the Month'. Kids remember the badge far longer than the score, and it rewards steady practice instead of one lucky round.

About this guide

Sections 1, 2, 4, 5 and 11 come from the official Ride the Bus game pages on zbani.com. Sections 3, 6, 7, 8 and 9 are written by a helper tool from the official description and the kind of game it is: they are guidance for players, not official rules from the publisher.

Sections 8 and 9 describe friendly challenges and a rewards idea for a family, class or community. zbani.com does not run real-money betting, and the 'Best Player' board described here is a suggestion for a leaderboard, not an existing zbani.com feature.

Word count of this card: about 1389 words.
